The Busy Box Room

CONTEMPORARY JEWELLERY & GLASS GIFTS BY JAN WARD

I teach a range of jewellery & fused glass workshops both from home and from other venues in the North East Derbyshire area. You don’t need to have any previous experience and you don’t even need to be a creative person to enjoy these sessions. Come along with a group of friends or simply come by yourself and meet like minded people in a friendly environment.

ABOUT THE MAKER

I graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 1995 with a BA (Hons) degree in Metalwork & Jewellery. Having moved away from the area succesfully teaching Design & Technology in secondary education for several years I finally decided that the time was right to return to what I love doing the most. I began creating contemporary jewellery and glass gifts from my ‘box room’ back here in Derbyshire. Having outgrown that space quite quickly I now work from a purpose built workshop in my garden.  I specialise in combining silver & gold to create beautiful colour & texture contrasts. The jewellery that I produce is largely minimalist in appearance and many pieces include small semi-precious gemstones. More recently I have started to incorporate fused glass into my jewellery designs and have also further branched out into larger fused glass products. My designs are mostly inspired by architecture and geometry and my work is available to buy here or at galleries locally.

 WHY BUY HANDMADE

The Busy Box Room is a small business and I make all of the products myself using traditional tools and equipment where possible. When you buy from me you are buying a unique piece, no-one else has an identical piece anywhere in the world. Large corporations will seek to manufacture products that look handmade, however they are largely machine made and consequently less environmentally friendly.  When you buy handmade you are helping to keep traditional working skills alive, you are supporting local people and you are keeping revenue in the country.

   ARTISAN & PRODUCERS MARKETS

I am pleased to announce that I am showcasing my work at a number of events in Derbyshire throughout 2020 including Dronfield Hall Barn & Holmesfield Local market. Products will include sterling silver & fused glass jewellery, home ware and wall art. I am also planning an extensive range of taster and full day courses from my home workshop and local venues. See the WORKSHOP page for more information.
